Holy Avtar Vani - Shabad No. 51
Maya rang barangi jeharhi tera jee parchandi ey;
Pakki gal samajh lai meri eh aandi te jandi ey.
Sukh duniyan de parchhaven ne jekar preetan paayenga;
Dhal gye parchhaven jis dam royenga kurlayenga.
Jo kujh akkhin nazrin aunda aavan jaavan wala ey;
Aklon anhan murakh banda jo is da matwala ey.
Chalde naal preetan la ke aakhar rona painda ey;
Hath palle nahin painda kujh vi sabh kujh khona painda ey.
Naal sant de preet kare jo sukh oh sare pa lainde;
Sant avtar kare je kirpa apne naal mila lainde.
Meaning
Man is lured by this multi colored world of materialism. He must understand that it is an illusion and that it comes and goes, and is not permanent. The comforts of the world are fleeting shadows if man wishes to get attached to them; the moment these shadows disappear he will weep and cry bitterly. All that is visible to the eye is transitory. Ignorant and unwise is the one who is enamored by it. If man is infatuated with what comes and goes, he has to repent in the end. He does not gain anything; everything has to be left behind. The one who loves the True Saint attains all the comforts. Avtar says, if True Saint is kind enough he unites one with himself.
